Feng Shui Mirrors – What Do They Do?

Mirror is a common furniture in almost everybody’s home. We usually have a mirror in the toilet, a mirror in the wardrobe and sometimes even one in the kiving room. If mirror has an impact on Feng Shui, its effect would inevitably be felt by almost everyone of us.

Feng Shui Mirrors – What Do They Do?

A few weeks ago I came across a term called Feng Shui mirror. Somebody was selling such kind of thing in a local market. The seller claimed that by hanging the mirror on the wall you would get better luck.

Does Feng Shui mirror ever exists? Before I answer this question I should explain the effects of mirror in Feng Shui.

We all know mirror reflects light. If you switch on a torch and point it to a mirror, you will see the light being reflected back to you. The stronger the light of the torch, the stronger the reflected light.

Mirror has the function of a reflector in Feng Shui. If there is good Chi in a particular corner of your house, it reflects the good Chi. On the other hand, if there is bad Chi it brings it out. The stronger the Chi the bigger the impact. If there is a mirror in a sickness direction, the mirror will bring out the bad energy.

You may consider mirror a amplifier of energy. It does not filter the energy, i.e. it would not block out bad energy or convert bad energy into good. So in practice there is no such thing as Feng Shui mirror because every ordinary mirror can do everything a Feng Shui mirror can do.

The Best Practice of Using Feng Shui Mirrors

So the truth about Feng Shui mirror is that it has good effect only if you place it in he right place. If you are not sure where the good / bad directions of your house is, my recommendation is to avoid putting mirrors at unnecessary locations. Only put them in the toilet and where you make up and dress.

If you can get an expert’s help, mirror could really be used for good Feng Shui. For example, many Feng Shui masters use Feng Shui to magnify the positive effects of the good Flying Stars in good directions.

Besides, sometimes Feng Shui masters would use convex mirrors to reduce the bad effects of external “Sha”. “Sha” is something bad in shape that could constitute a threat to the Feng Shui of your house. A typical example of external “Sha” is a sharp angle pointing to your house’s door or window. In this case, some Feng Shui masters would hang a convex mirror facing the “Sha” in hope of reducing the bad effects experienced.

If in doubt, ask a local Feng Shui master!

Feng Shui for Education Luck – Some Simple Tricks

I am frequently asked by people, usually parents, on Feng Shui for education luck. On the other hand, there are other people who reject this idea, because they think that education counts on the efforts individuals made. The more diligent you are the better results you get in the examination. These people think that we shouldn’t rely on Feng Shui to achieve education / examination goals, and it simply doesn’t work. Which side is true?

Feng Shui examines the relationship among time, place and people. People is the factor that we can control. If you work harder, there is a higher chance you get a better examination result. But the two former factors are not 100% under our control. This is where Feng Shui comes in for education. But applying Feng Shui for education, we are not solely relying on the “magical power” of Feng Shui. The student still needs to put efforts in studying, we simply put efforts in the other two factors as well.

Feng Shui for Education Luck – Exterior

In ancient times, Chinese study for only one reason, they all want to win in the government examination and become a government official. It was the best way to get rich and powerful. So when people wanted to enhance the education luck, the methods they use would be linked to this goal.

For example, since all government officials at that time wore a hat in a particular shape, which they called it Wu Sha (烏紗), it was suggested that having a mountain / hill near you house which has a Wu Sha shape is good for education. Below is a photo of a real Wu Sha found in the grave of a government official of the Ming Dynasty. If there is a mountain / hill that looks similar to it (i.e. high in the middle and lower on both sides, all three has a round top), the region near the mountain / hill has good Feng Shui for education luck.

Another external form factor Feng Shui element that we look for is a tall hill with a relatively narrow base. In Feng Shui, there is a tool called Wen Chang Tower, 文曲塔 in Chinese, which could boost the education luck. If there is naturally a tower-like hill near your home, it is also an area with good Feng Shui for education. In modern society, a tall and slender building could also be regarded as a Wen Chang Tower.

Thirdly, if there is any education-related buildings, such as a school or library, that is located near your house, it is also a sign of good Feng Shui for education.

No matter Wu Sha, Wen Chang Tower or school/library, the direction where it locates also matter. We will see where are the good directions later in this article.

Feng Shui for Education Luck – Interior

The external environment is not 100% controlled by us. So Feng Shui masters usually implement internal strategies for Feng Shui for education. One very commonly used tool is lucky bamboo. Just find out the good direction for education and place a vest with four pieces of lucky bamboo, the simplest Feng Shui method for education luck is done. Why so?

In Feng Shui, the quantity “4” is related to Flying Star 4 that governs study, job promotion and fame. The green color is good for promoting the power of Flying Star 4, so as the “wooden” nature of the lucky bamboo. In short, we are actually using the luck bamboo to boost the power of the Flying Star 4. This is just a brief explanation of the reason behind. If you are a student of my online Feng Shui Master Class, you would know more about how this mechanism and many other Feng Shui techniques work.

So the critical question is where the lucky direction is. It is the location where the Flying Star 4 situates. In theory, the Feng Shui direction for education luck varies from one house to another (again, you can learn it in my online Feng Shui Master Class). So here is a simpler trick you can use. It is to find out the location of the yearly Flying Star 4!

There is a set of Flying Stars that changes the disposition every year. In year 2013, this star locates in Southeast. So, if you want to enhance the education / examination luck, place a vest with four lucky bamboo in Southeast. Please note that it is the Southeast corner measured from the center of the flat / house.

Similarly, if the Wu Sha / Wen Chang Tower / library or school is located in the Southeast direction outside your house, it is a sign of good Feng Shui for education in 2013.

Yearly and Monthly Flying Star Feng Shui Case Studies [Final Master Class]

Welcome back. This is the last lesson in the Feng Shui Master Class. Thank you for following us through the end. In the last 31 weeks you have already learnt a great deal of Feng Shui. From Feng Shui theories to Form Feng Shui essentials, from Ba Gua Feng Shui to Flying Star Feng Shui, the knowledge delivered through this Master Class is well enough for not only self-assessment but also doing Feng Shui for other people. Time flies, it is time to say goodbye. There are certainly more to discuss in Feng Shui, please frequently come back to Feng Shui DIY, I will from time to time post Feng Shui articles discussing matters from elementary to expert levels.

Let’s come back to this lesson. This time we do not study the static Flying Star Map of a house, but the dynamic Yearly and Monthly Flying Star Maps. I said they are dynamic because according to traditional Flying Star Feng Shui theories, the Flying Star dispositions changes every year (the Yearly Flying Star Map) as well as every month (the monthly Flying Star Map). On the other hand, the Flying Star Map of your house does not change unless you demolish the house or have a major renovation.

It is relatively not difficult to examine the static Flying Star Map of a house, because once the judgment is made it is valid forever (you just need to take into account of the change of Period and the corresponding change in prevailing stars). However, since there are Yearly and Flying Star Maps, we also need to examine the effects of the dynamic Flying Stars on the static Flying Star Map. This is the theme of this final lesson.

Dynamic Flying Star Map “Sets”

There is one thing I need to remind you before we move on. By saying Yearly and Monthly Flying Star Maps, we mean there are two “sets” of dynamic Flying Star Maps. One is the Yearly Map the other is the Monthly Map. In other words, in a given direction there exists one Flying Star which stays there for 12 months, at the same time there is another Flying Star that changes every month. These two Stars co-exist. DO NOT think that Yearly Flying Star Map is the “collective” way to describe the 12 month’s Flying Star Map.

By examining these two Stars’ impact on the static Flying Star Map of the house and the relationship between these two Stars themselves, we could predict much more events that may happen on the house and the occupiers.

Finally, although I explained the Yearly and Monthly Flying Star Maps here, there are even more. Everyday there is a Daily Flying Star Map (in which the Stars changes their locations every day) and even Hourly Maps (the Stars changes their locations every two hours). However, since the duration of these Maps are quite short, Feng Shui master would usually not take them into consideration. Otherwise, how could ask the clients to change the Feng Shui settings every month?

Case (1) – Big Fire in a Village

This was a case happened in 1923 in China. The exact location was in ZheJiang near Shanghai. The whole village settlement was built at a location where there were high mountains in North and a junction of rivers in South. Most people lived around the river junction in South for ease of getting water for all kinds of activities.

A big fire happened in the Ninth Month of the year and destroyed most houses. Below are the Yearly and Monthly Flying Star Maps. Please note what Stars were located in South in that Year and particularly in that Month.

Flying Star Feng Shui Case Studies (3) – Health Matters [Master Class 31]

It’s another week, we are back to the Feng Shui Master Class. In the last two lessons, we have gone through five cases related to wealth and fame/job promotion. After reading these cases, you should have realized that Feng Shui is much more than memorizing the rules. You really need to match the external environment, interior layout and the status/need of the client to come up with a tailor-made solution. There is really no such thing as universal Feng Shui setting that is applicable to all buildings.

This week, we’ll come back to a very commonly sought for Feng Shui goal, health. We shall read two cases that illustrate how Feng Shui could affect the health of the occupants. Although you probably would not live in a house with exactly the same situation, you would definitely be able to learn some ass-kicking Feng Shui techniques from these cases.

Case (1) – Double Sickness Star and Double Stars to Water

This is a typical case of how wealth and health may not co-exist in some Feng Shui cases. The subject house was owned by an entrepreneur in Hong Kong whose last name is Ho. The house was built in 2006, which was during the Eighth Period. It was a detached house of three storeys, the whole house was owned by him and occupied by his family.

Below is the Flying Star Map of Mr. Ho’s house:

Let me first explain the external environment. The house’s entrance door opens into West. In front of the door was a garden with a large fish pond. Mr. Ho loved keeping Koi (a kind of ornamental fish which is very expensive and popular in Japan and China). There were eight fishes in that pond.

Mr. Ho has a son who was 16 years old when the Feng Shui analysis was done. He lived in the Southeast corner on the first floor. He loved this room because the windows open into Southeast for plenty of sunshine and cool wind. (In Hong Kong, from micro-climate point of view the best direction to face is South because it is where the winds comes in Summer while the sun light would be adequate while not too much. In winter, such orientation is also good because the cold wind comes from North, having no windows facing North helps to retain warmth in the room.)

Mr. Ho’s bedroom was located on the second floor of the house in the Northern corner. The head of the bed was in North and the tail of the bed was pointing towards South. He said that the fish pond and the orientation of the bed was suggested by a Feng Shui master. The fish pond was designed for bringing wealth, while the bed should face South to resemble the orientation of the palace of ancient Chinese Emperors, so as to strengthen his power in the company he found.

Flying Star Feng Shui Case Studies (2) – Feng Shui for Fame [Master Class 30]

Last week we have seen two cases of the use of Flying Star Feng Shui to hit wealth generation goals. The Feng Shui masters behind these two cases were very smart, they not only found the best locations for entrances of the shops, but also make very good use of the external environment such as road intersections. Read these cases carefully if you haven’t, I’m sure that you could learn a great deal of of them.

This week we gonna learn from some new cases. Instead of making money, could Feng Shui help people to achieve other goals? From the cases reviewed below you will know what else Feng Shui could do to bring fame and popularity.

Case 1 – Feng Shui for Fame for a Religion Center

This is a very special case. It does not concern money but fame, which is not the most wanted goal that people would use Feng Shui to achieve. And more interestingly, the subject building was occupied by a non-profit-making organization. It’s a Buddhism education canter in Shanghai, China.

The building was built in the Fourth Period. The occupier was a Buddhism education center operated by Mr. Lin who was a “Householder”, i.e. non-monastic. The center located in a busy region in Shanghai, near a street named Xin Min Road. It was one of the most popular Buddhism education center at that time. The seminars held by Mr. Lin was always full. After analyzing the Feng Shui of this center, we would know what contributed to the popularity of it.

Below is the Flying Star Map of this center.

Geographically, there was a main entrance in the Southeast and one side entrance in the North of the center. These entrances played very significant role in the Feng Shui of the center.

Firstly, the main entrance. It was located in Southeast, a location where there are two Flying Star 4 in the same direction. Flying Star 4 is a very good star for fame, study and job promotion. In this case, the existence of two Flying Star 4 doubles the positive effects, so the education became very famous and popular.

Secondly, the side entrance. It was located in North where we could find a Flying Star 1 as the Mountain Star. Flying Star 1 is related to relationship. With a Flying Star 1 in the entrance, the positive energy of this Star could flow into the education center. The end result was high popularity of the center (because people liked this center, consider it kind of customer relationship).

Flying Star Feng Shui Case Studies (1) [Master Class 29]

Welcome back to the Feng Shui Master Class. In the last 28 weeks, i.e. 7 months, we have learnt the essence of Form Feng Shui, Ba Gua Feng Shui and Flying Star Feng Shui. The information provided in these classes is much more than many other Feng Shui books or tutorials you can find online. If you have been paying attention to all the information provided in these classes, you should be able to regard yourself as a Feng Shui practitioner already, you know much more than many Feng Shui do-ers out there.

But “to know” is different from “to be able to”. A person who have read all Wikipedia pages (if such person could ever exists) is not necessarily the more powerful problem-solver on earth. He must know how to apply his knowledge. This is the objective of our coming lessons.

Starting this week, we will see many real Feng Shui cases. These cases happened in different times, as old as in early 20th century to as new as recent years. The topics covered include health, fame, wealth, study, etc. From these cases, you will see how Feng Shui could be applied in different scenarios, and how Feng Shui should be used “flexibly”. Although you may not have the chance to practice Feng Shui everyday like a pro, from these cases you can nevertheless step in the shoes of Feng Shui masters and think how Feng Shui theories could be translated into real strategies to implement.

Case (1) – Thriving Business with Jewelry Orientation

This case happened in Shanghai, China, in the 3rd Period (from 1904 to 1923). The concerned building was occupied by a shop that sold candles (at that time candles were the major tool for illumination, candle production was a big business). In this Period, the prevailing Flying Star was 3, followed by 4 and 5.

The orientation of this building was Mountain Xu Facing Chen (坐戌向辰 in Chinese), i.e. Facing Southeast Backing Northwest. The Flying Star Map looked like this:

There are a few geographical features I need to state here. The entrances of the shop were in Northeast and Southeast east. There was a road intersection in East, where three roads met each other. That intersection was very busy with thousands of people passing by everyday.

Feng Shui for Specific Goals (3) – Tips for Getting Pregnant [Master Class 28]

The topic of this lesson is quite interesting. While most people believe that Feng Shui could help on bringing health, wealth, career and relationship, most people don’t believe that Feng Shui also could affect people’s chance of getting pregnant. When talking about increasing the chance of pregnancy, most people would turn to medical advice. It seems that consulting a doctor is way more reliable than consulting a Feng Shui master.

But yes there are really ways to “help” to do so. I said “help”, because Feng Shui is not almighty after all. Feng Shui could enhance the chance but cannot control it. There are many other factors that influence the chance of people conceiving a baby.

So what exactly is the method to “help”? Remember in Flying Star Feng Shui we use the Mountain Star to bring health? In fact, Mountain Star governs not only health but also “family”, i.e. how many babies a family have and how healthy the second generation is. So the basic principle is to utilize the prevailing Mountain Star.

Apart from the prevailing Mountain Star, the Flying Star 9 is also a tool we could use. Remember Flying Star 9 governs happiness things? No matter marriage, new baby… all happy events are controlled by this Star. If we could smartly leverage this Star, we could add to the chance of getting pregnant.

Sleep in the Right Direction

I don’t think I need to explain how important the bed is to conceiving a baby. For the selection of bed, I think you can easily find a lot of references on the internet on interior design, sizing and material of the bed, etc.

In this Feng Shui class, what I would like to share about the location of the bed. Firstly, you should always avoid directions where the sickness Flying Stars are located. In other words, Flying Stars 2 and 5 are what you should avoid.

Feng Shui for Specific Goals (2) – Love & Relationship [Master Class 27]

It’s Feng Shui time again! Last week we have seen what Feng Shui measures could be done to bring better luck in study and career. This week we move on to the next goal, which is one many people want to achieve.

In Chinese Feng Shui, Tao Hua (桃花 in Chinese) Star is what controls relationship. Here relationship means love, but it does not only relate to love, it also means the relationship between people, say, the relationship between friends, colleagues, family members, etc. It could even mean how good you get along with a stranger.

Relationship is an important sector of Feng Shui which is getting more and more attention. It is quite common that clients come to a Feng Shui master and ask for help to find a boyfriend or get married. It is also usual for Feng Shui masters be summoned to help to improve relationship in the workplace. So once you mastered the skills I deliver in this lesson, you have actually opened the door to many possibilities in Feng Shui practice.

It should be noted that Feng Shui does not and cannot guarantee that you find your white knight or princess, it simply means you have higher chance to do so. apart from Feng Shui, your own fate and your personality also affects the end result.

Feng Shui for Specific Goals (1) – Study & Promotion [Master Class 26]

Welcome back to the Feng Shui Master Class. In the past few weeks we have learnt how to interpret the effects of any two Flying Stars combined. Please be reminded that what I taught are theories only, you really need to practice and apply the rules to different real life situations, so that you could really appreciate the effects of each combination.

If you are detail minded enough, you would notice that most of our discussions in the past few weeks were focused on health and wealth. This is not without reasons.

Firstly, the Mountain Star and Water Star are meant to represent health and wealth respectively according to Flying Star Feng Shui. It follows naturally that these two are the major goals of Flying Star Feng Shui.

Secondly, Chinese in the past were very concerned about these two matters. They believes that once both goals are achieved, they live a complete and happy life. This is why Chinese Feng Shui has been so concentrated on health and wealth.

However, in modern days things are quite different. We certainly care about our health and how much money we make, but these are never the only goals. If Feng Shui is only effective for bringing health and wealth, it would not be so fascinating. Of course, Feng Shui is definitely not almighty, but it can be very powerful if you know how to use it properly.

So, starting from this week, we will look at how Feng Shui could help us to achieve goals not directly related to health and wealth. I said “not directly related”, because some goals do need good health or money to be reached. We shall see more examples soon.

This week we shall look at ways to facilitate children’s study and our job promotion in the workplace.

Double Star Combinations for Study & Job Promotion

Among all double star combinations there are a few that are good for study and career. Let’s go through them one by one.

1 – 1

When both Mountain and Water Stars are 1, this combination means intelligence, which is definitely good for children. If luckily your house has a direction where both stars are 1, you should definitely move your children’s desks to this corner.

This combination also has another effect of bringing good interpersonal relationship. So for those who work in the office, it would be great if your own room or desk is located in a direction within the office where the 1 – 1 stars are situated.

Interpretation of Double Stars (3) [Master Class 25]

After learning how to interpret the meanings of 45 double star combinations in the last two lessons, we come to the final week of double star interpretation. In this lesson we will learn how to read the combinations beginning with Flying Stars 6, 7, 8 and 9.

We have 36 combinations to go through in this single lesson, so this will be a busy week. But before we go into the details of these combinations, I shall address an issue raised by a student. He asked whether these double star combinations could only be used to interpret the Mountain and Water Stars.

Double Stars in a Box

Usually when Feng Shui masters teach Double Stars Interpretation, they simply tell the students to use the interpretations on Mountain and Water Stars. In fact, these interpretation are not confined to these two Stars.

I came across many cases when we use these interpretations to find out the relationship of the current month/year’s Flying Star in a box and the Mountain/Water Star in the same box. It is quite usual that, due to the coming of a bad Monthly Flying Star, the Mountain Star is adversely affected and consequently the occupiers’ health is also affected. We find out these relationships by applying these interpretations to any two Stars in a box.

So, the answer to this question is no, you do not limit yourself to the Mountain and Water Stars. However, in the early stage we usually do not encourage students to go too far. As your experience grows you would be able to apply all the techniques freely like a master. For now, let’s just assume the method of interpreting double stars is used for the Mountain/Water combo only.

Interpretation of Double Stars (2) [Master Class 24]

Welcome back to Feng Shui Master Class, this is the second lesson for the interpretation of double stars. Last week, we have covered two groups of double star combinations, i.e. those beginning with Flying Stars 1 and 2.

From last week’s content, you could probably find out that there are some common features in different combinations. For example, all combinations beginning with Flying Star 1 are more or less related to study, job promotion and fame. Those beginning with Flying Star 2 have something related to real estate and female in the family.

These are not coincidences. Each Flying Star has its own properties and effects. Flying Star 2 really relate to real estate. By studying its relationship of the other Flying Star in the combination, we could predict what effects would be generated.

One typical example is the combination of 2 – 5, which means the Mountain Star is 2 and Water Star is 5. Since both stars are sickness stars, when both stars are present we could easily tell how serious the bad effect to health could be.

After all, Flying Star Feng Shui is a kind of mathematics. It is not a religion, there are principles and rules governing it. Next time, if somebody questions Feng Shui, you can tell him how serious the calculation is!
